It's Spring Break over here at Casa Monogram we've been raisin' the roof and gettin' wild and crazy with laundry, baseball practice, play dates, and trying on last summers clothes. I know. Try to contain your excitement. It's enough to make me want to run out and have matching air brushed t-shirts made for each of us that read SPRING BREAK '10!
And while I'd planned to hit the tennis courts this morning, the thunderstorms have put a damper on my plans so that leaves me to plan B: find a dress for mini #1's First Communion for once and for all. Truth be told I've bought probably 4 dresses and consequently taken them all back because I've not liked them once I've gotten them home. Because as it turns out? Your ass really is as big at home as it is in the department store dressing room. Who knew?
So I haven't found a dress yet, but I did just stumble upon these little gems at L.L. Bean. Lovely, just lovely. And with a Free Shipping coupon code 3018863, my rainy day just got a little bit sunnier.

Things I Love Today: Steven Salario Sandals
You know when you order something that you're so excited to get that every time the UPS or FedEx truck drives down your street you jump up in anticipation, wanting to run after it like the proverbial dog chasing the mail truck? Well that's been me. In my pearls and pink and green, panting and barking at the parcel carriers. Not. Good.

I Hope Your Sitting Down! (a can't miss deal)
Yesterday while the mini’s were at pre-school I was my usual chicken with it’s head cut off, trying to get everything done I could in my limited 5 hours. It was a busy day, and I was able to fit in a Dr’s appointment, lunch, stopping at Mr. Monogram’s office, a dash into the drugstore, a stop at the UPS store, the bookstore, and then another little excursion into Steinmart. Quite productive, I’d say! But I was exhausted when I returned home from picking the mini’s up from pre-school. That is until I saw the surprise was awaiting me at the front door from my favorite men in brown…
My By Paige Ballet Flats!! And let me tell you, as cute as these are on the website, they are sooooooooooo much cuter in person and on my pedicured preppy little feet. It was just the pick-up this tired mom needed, and I even wore them to Bunko last night and got loads of comments on them. After much debate, I got the lime and white checked ballet flat and I think I’m going to get a lot of wear out of them. The colors are great, and I paired it last night with a casual summer white eyelet skirt, and a green cable-knit tee. They are very comfy, and not “hard” or “tight” like some other needlepoint brands. The leather is very soft and the soles are great also. The actually move with your foot instead of being a really hard sole. Truly, I can’t recommend them enough and the customer service at By Paige is fantastic as well. You know that goes a long way in my little monogrammed book, too.
As if it’s not exciting enough that my shoes arrived, Courtney at By Paige has the most excellent and exclusive offer for MM readers! I hope your sitting down because I promise I’ve never shared a discount like this before..
For needlepoint shoes and mules
Receive $15 off any pair of needlepoint shoes or mules (including monograms!) by using the coupon code MONOGRAM15 at checkout, good through the ENTIRE Summer!
For ballet flats
Receive $10 off any pair of ballet flats by using the coupon code MONOGRAM10 at checkout, good through the ENTIRE Summer!
The BEST part? Offers CAN be combined and you will receive this discount for each and every pair you order!!!!! And did I mention these offers were good through the ENTIRE Summer?! I told you this was phenomenal! Go for it and get yourself some cute shoes for the summer and don’t forget they also make a great gift!

Dishpan Hands
This past weekend I was out of town. I took a trip home by myself (although preppy puppy accompanied me of course) to see my friend Ashley who lives in NJ. She was flying home for 1 night so we arranged to go out to dinner together with our parents. Ashley, if you’ll remember, is an old prep school friend of mine and one of the greatest friends I could truly ever ask for. Anyhoo, we had the most fabulous dinner Saturday night and had a great time with our parents so it was lots of fun. I’d say it was just like the old days but that wouldn’t be entirely correct because if it were like the old days, Ashley and I would have been in trouble for one thing or another and I’m happy to report we remain ungrounded (although I would love to see our dad’s try to take away our phones or tv from us now! HA!).
So I arrived home yesterday afternoon to a sink full of dirty dishes which just did not please me. Especially considering I left the house in tip-top shape. If this is what happens when I leave Mr. Monogram & the boys for 24 hours when they are a mere 5 and 3 ½ , I can’t *wait* to see what kind of shape they leave the house in for me when they’re teenagers. But here’s yesterday’s conversation just to give you the full effect.
Me: Why are all these dishes in the sink?
Mr. Monogram: I don’t know.
Me: You really don’t know????
Mr. Monogram: Well mini #2 did it.
Me: looking annoyed, thinking, That is LOW, blaming dirty dishes on a 3 yr old.
Me: Oh, okayyyyy. Well what did you guys eat for lunch yesterday? Did they eat for you?
Mr. Monogram: Yeah, pizza.
Me: What about dinner:
Mr. Monogram: Mexican
Me: Did they eat breakfast?
Mr. Monogram: yeah, we had more pizza.
Me: thinking, ughhhhhhh
Me: Well what did you boys do yesterday? Anything fun?
Mr. Monogram: Yeah, I took the boys to my office for a little while
**because we allll know that is *tons* of fun for children***
Mr. Monogram: BTW, I need to replace the projector screen in my board room (then looks over at Mini #1)
Me: I'm sorry???? And why on earth are we buying a new projector screen anyway?
Mr. Monogram: Because the current one has a really big self-portrait of mini #1 standing on some grass with clouds and a sun and then it’s signed. So your son left a signed self-portrait on the wall of my board room. REALLY BIG.
Me: Oh that’s not my son that did that. That’s yours.
Clearly when I leave town for a mere 24 hours, this is what happens. At any rate, I have to say I am excited because it’s my birthday week. Did you know that? My birthday is Sunday. I guess that technically makes next week my b’day week but whatever. Next week, as it turns out, is Spring Break for the mini monograms. And while I’m day dreaming of sitting on a beach w/ the mini’s and a book somewhere (anywhere!), I don’t think that’s going to happen. Although I sure could use a littly vacay! I guess we’ll just head to my parents in Atlanta for a few days, but we’ll see.
This morning we are headed out to JoAnn’s because I’ve got a great craft project for us to do today. I’ll fill you in on that tomorrow and I also have lots of other great spring/easter things heading your way as well this week. In the meantime, I want to share a couple new sites you might be interested in before I get started on cleaning those dishes.

Mud Puddles & Rain Boots
As it turned out, our little outing to the park the other day wasn’t as innocent as it started out to be. In the fall, they adjust the dams and greatly lower the lake level where I live to accommodate all the winter rain and weather we receive here. It’s actually pretty smart if you think about it (hint, HINT if anyone reading this has anything to do with the constantly overflowing Chattahoochee River in Atlanta by sharp comparison). At any rate, my friend, Cresta and I met up at the park with our boys and lunch. It was such a gorgeous day we were all really looking forward to the fresh air. And since the lake is so low, there are tons of rocks and soggy mud where the water level usually is; so anticipating the boys would probably like to walk down there to explore with their little buckets and shovels and look for rocks, we had all 4 boys in their rain galoshes.
I have to say now, this was a really smart move, but ended up being a completely moot point. Jacob was the first to walk out closer to the water and start throwing rocks to make them splash in the water. You can just imagine a little boy out there in that picture up there, sailboats in front of him, having a great ‘ol time throwing rocks in the water. Until he fell face down in the mud that is. Ever determined though, Jacob forged on and got back up, and tried to walk back to the drier area where the other boys were. And then he fell face down in the mud again. So this comedy of up down up down went on for a good few minutes. I’m ashamed to say, that instead of being the helpful parents that we typically are and should have been, Cresta and I were literally bent over in hysterical laugher from watching Jacob (up down, up down, up down in the mud), we just sat there howling in laughter so hard and trying to prevent ourselves from losing our bladder control.
Then Will, her older son goes out there. Again, he’s having a great time throwing rocks into the water too. Until he too, turns around to walk back and his boots have sunk so far into the mud, that he starts to walk but his boots don’t, so he too, falls face down in the mud. Even more hysterical laughter from Cresta and I. I mean, let me tell you, this was just priceless (and meanwhile, Jacob is still stuck and unphased by it). At this point, I am laughing so hard, I have gotten off the bench and am kneeling on the ground next to it grabbing onto the bench. This is seriously hysterical. Until Will starts to cry. And as Will starts to cry and we’re trying to determine if it’s a “real” cry or not (because let’s face it, we certainly didn’t want to have to go out there and get all muddy!), Mini #1 has gone out there too. And yep, he gets stuck.
So I admit it. We really sort of thought they were being kinda wimpy and just told them “just walk away! Pull your boots out of the mud and start walking back to the dry area over there! You’re fine!” But then mini #1 was adding to the persistent pleas of the other two (Will and Jacob who are still claiming to be stuck), so Cresta headed out to the trenches. In brand new sneakers no less. And as it turns out, they really were stuck in the mud. Deep, deep in the mud, requiring all her strength to loosen their boots from the suction of the mud. And as it turns out, I guess we really should have worn our own rain boots that day, so you know me, I returned home and started checking out all the rain boots I could find (after hosing down the boys of course).
J Crew has the most adorable Wellies like these little yellow and blue whale numbers. And while you’re there picking up a cute pair for yourself, you must check out the adorable boys and girls galoshes since you know I am all about outfit coordination for the whole family. For similar preppy styles but at a slightly better price, then hop on over to Diane’s Little Lambs when you’re done looking around J. Crew. Again, I love the whale print she has for the whole family, and she has a huge selection of rain loafers, boots, clogs and even cowboy boots (Not even kidding!). Now, for an equally large assortment of types and styles of these must-have boots (really, just think how cute you’ll look on a rainy summer day running to the grocery in these galoshes and a little knee-length a-line skirt), go check out the old standard, Zappos. But if you’re still finding these a little pricey for your budget, then seriously you need to rush on over to Target. Talk about a huge selection of adorable rain boots under $20. Now that is a deal I can get behind!
But wait. I’m not done yet! I can’t complete this post without mentioning my favorite of all, the Tamara Henriques designs from Olive and Bettes. Sooooooooo cute I can hardly stand it. Just don’t go over there expecting to see the toile rain ballerina flats because sadly, those are no longer on the site. *sigh* Okay so these adorable blue bird boots are a tad expensive (I mean, they’re rubber boots, after all), but lordy do I need them or what?! I don’t think Mr. Monogram would mind, do you? Hmmmmm…. Well anyway, there’s still a giant selection over at Amazon to check out too, if you’re still unsatisfied with all the other options I’ve given you.
Now, I don’t know about where you live, but from where I’m sitting it’s an absolutely gorgeous day. Mini #1 is going home from pre-school with a friend so Min #2 and I are enjoying some time together. And lucky for me, I won’t be needing any rain boots today, but don’t think I won’t be heading out this weekend to snag a preppy pair for myself.;-)

Pretty Preppy College Feet
First things first today, and I know I’m not the only one watching Dancing with the Stars. Now, I might possibly be the only one of us who’s actually calling and voting, but whatever. But Jerry Springer was so cute last night I swear to you it brought tears to my eyes (and no, I haven’t lost my mind and started crossing over to the “dark side” of trash tv so rest assured).
Mr. Monogram: What’s wrong with you? Are you getting a cold?
Me: NO?
Mr. Monogram: Are you CRYING?! … For JERRY SPRINGER?!
Me: NO?! …Just shut up I’m trying to watch!
Seriously. I’m not saying he’s going to win or that I even want him to win (stop laughing at me, and no I didn’t vote for Jerry), but I double dog dare you to tell me you didn’t get all weepy watching him learn the waltz for his daughter. Now, more importantly than Jerry Springer, let’s talk about how Mario Lopez totally has this competition in the bag. All I kept hearing was that horrible song “Hot Hot Hot” in the back of my mind while watching his Paso Doblè last night (well that and I could really go for a Margarita and a bowl of cheese dip, but I digress). Whew! Mr. Monogram and I decided two things after the completion of last nights show: 1) The “professional partners” choreography is totally going to make or break them because the couples who are scoring the best have the best routines and 2) there is seriously something brewing with Mario and his “professional partner” (as they like to say) so stay tuned.
And the last thing I’m going to say about Dancing with the Stars, is that I SOOOOO want to see them get Martha on this show. Couldn’t you just see her coming out in her own costume creations that she stayed up all night sewing? I’m just throwing that out there and planting that little seed in case anyone from network television is checking in on my little daily blog (BTW, if anyone from network TV really IS reading this, then do you think you could score a girl some tickets for Martha’s Live show? I would really be most appreciative. Thanks!).
Now, on to the business at hand for today, and that is the Church of Bonanno. Stephen Bonanno sandals that is. And if you don’t know what Bonanno sandals are, then you are really missing out. They are nothing short of delicious with their buttery whipstiched leather, and with the monogrammed Emma Classic, you simply must check them out. So yesterday Vivian from Stephen Bonanno sent me an email regarding their new take on the Emma Classic sandal. Wanting to tap into the collegiate/sorority market, Vivian would like to know where you all went to college and what your school colors are. You can see a few examples in the inset photo. Adorable, right? These SERIOUSLY have monogram momma’s name all over them for tailgating (and you know there is no joking around about shoes or SEC tailgating)! You see, Bonanno’s are purely custom. Every stitch, every piece of leather, every font and monogram style is chosen by each individual customer, but they need to know what colors to offer their clients. That’s where all the marvelous monogram momma readers come in! So for the sake of worshipping at the alter of shoes, comment away what college you attended (big or small) and it’s collegiate colors for our fine friends at Bonanno.
Instant Message conversation between myself and an old prep school pal who happens to be a Methodist Reverend (yes, it’s true. It makes me chuckle too, that little ‘ol Italian Catholic SARCASTIC me really does have a pal who’s an honest to God Minister. HA!)
Me: Have you seen the Stephen Bonanno sandals?
Her: eeeeeeeeeh!
Me: I mean, I know you’re a preacher and all, but I gotta believe this is pretty close to heaven, right?
Her: Trust Me. YES.

Yep, More Painted Shoes
I really thought I was done with the whole painting shoes project after I did my lobster Dr. Scholl’s this summer. That is until I saw the leather mules over at Brentwood Design. Who wouldn’t love a pair of monogrammed shoes? So very chic but yet so very difficult to find. And Alyson and I promptly agreed that her little lady, Miss Graysen really must have a chute hand painted pair of first walkers. However, the designs at Brentwood were a bit over-the-top for her (and mine, too) taste. Don’t get me wrong. Donna’s designs are beyond fabulous and she is obviously extremely talented and has found a great niche, but Alyson wanted something a little simpler. So I said I’d give it a go.
Supplies needed:
-pair of leather toddler first walkers or women’s loafers or mules
-blue transfer paper
-pen
-paint pens & acrylic paint
- ¼” wide decorative grosgrain ribbon for laces (if for laced shoe)
-Fray Stop
-monogram or design either drawn or printed
Now, let’s get started. I must be pretty excited about Fall as I seem to keep being drawn to the argyle pattern with this project. What started me thinking about the classic argyle (which is, as we all know, a staple in any preppies wardrobe) was the top of the toddler shoes I bought for Alyson’s little girl. You can tell in the picture that they have a diamond shape out of small holes on the top of the shoe, so I decided to take that and run with it and use it to my advantage. So on the toddler shoe, I taped off my diamond at the toes, painted it with a paint pen first, let that d
ry, then painted over with Acrylic. I don’t know why I did that, I just did. So then I moved to the back of the shoe, taped off my diamonds there, and painted them as well.
While I was waiting for the diamonds to dry, I took my blue transfer paper, and transferred my monogram on the side of the shoe. As always I used the blue painters tape to secure my little monogram to the shoe so the paper wouldn’t rip, and then went over the transferred monogram with my paint pens. A little note here, I only did one side at a time as to not smear or rub off the transfer while I was working on one side. Once I finished all four monograms (two on each shoe, inner and outer sides), my diamonds were dry, I then removed my tape, and added on my dashed X’s to complete my argyle pattern with my paint pen. Now, I did not like the look of the white laces in the shoe, so I removed those and bought pink and white ¼ “ wide grosgrain ribbon instead. I’m still not in l
ove with the ribbon I bought as I wanted something a little more fun (maybe a gingham or polka dot perhaps?), but it was difficult to find a fun grosgrain that was that narrow. Anyhow, make sure you cut your ribbon at an angle and use the Fray Stop to prevent the ribbon from fraying (duh), and then lace up the shoes once the Fray Stop has dried. Put the new kicks on your little lady (or gent), a pair of jeans and cardigan and out to the park you go! And yes, I do think these would look perfectly cute on a little boy as well, so long as you changed your color scheme to lets say, perhaps a brown and baby blue instead of pink and green.
So these turned out so cute, I got to thinking how they would look if I did a pair for myself. I mean, you never know unless you try, right? So clearly I was not going to go mess up a perfectly good new pair of shoes and after some digging, found an old pair of navy loafers in the back of my closet. Note to self: clean out closet. Anyhoo, the shoes. I really never wear navy shoes anymore (it’s been 4 years to be exact), so I didn’t really feel bad about experimenting on them, and decided once again to just go with an argyle pattern. I will say though, that I played around with my design and color scheme and fonts in Word before actually painting it on. And instead of using the painters tape to tape off my diamonds, I went ahead and printed up my design, and traced it onto the shoe using the transfer paper. Why? Well I don’t kn
ow. I guess I just wanted to get a little crazy and mix things up a bit. I know what you’re thinking. WooHoo! Watch out; there goes monogram momma getting crazy again with that transfer paper!
Once my diamond shape was transferred onto the shoe, I painted it with my green paint pen to get clean lines. I then hand painted several coats of acrylic paint on top, very carefully. Once the diamonds dried, I cut out my initial, and again, transferred that onto the center of each green diamond. I then painted that with a paint pen, and then added in my dashed lines to complete my argyle pattern. It’s as easy as done.
So, time for confessions. While I love how little Graysen’s shoes turned out, I’m not necessarily married to the shoes I did for myself. I can see myself occasionally wearing them with jeans and perhaps my green cable knit, but don’t expect to see monogram momma sporting these as her everyday run-around shoe. Even with this toned down version of the painted shoe, they are still a bit much for me. They might be just right though for a College Football game and tailgating though, so I’ll have to keep that in mind.
Now if you still really love the idea of a monogrammed or personalized shoe but don’t care for the ones I did or the ones at Brentwood either, then you simply must check out Amy Jo Gladstone of New York. While you’re there, make sure you check out her entire collection, monogrammed and non-monogrammed alike, as she’s got some really fabulous looking driving moc’s w/ pink or green stitching on a black shoes with coordinating tassel. But if you still don’t fancy anything on Amy’s site, and perhaps you are looking for a fun needlepoint shoe, then check out the nice collection at Itz A Stitch or The Cottage at Spotswood. However, while you’re visiting the Cottage, you simply must check out the sweet little needlepoint shoes for baby. So delicious, I love them! But while we’re on the subject of super cute baby shoes, you all really must peek your head into Twinkle Toes Shop for that super finicky baby or toddler. Oh how I wish they made these larger for all 4 of us in the Monogram family as they are JUST what is missing from our Christmas card picture outfits (which yes, I’ve already decided upon).
So now that you’ve got some good options for customizing and monogramming your own shoes go off and be creative as you can in your design and execution. As for me, today I am feeling a bit navy and green so I think I will load up the mini monograms and head to the library for story time. After that, perhaps we’ll pick up some lunch and head to the park. Of course, that’s all depending on the weather, which has been keeping us very wet for several days now (and monogram momma does not enjoy getting wet on rainy days). So have fun and happy shoe painting, and I do hope you’ll send in some pictures if any of you should decide to attempt this project yourselves!

Must Have Fall Finds
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go, I'm standing here outside your door, I hate to wake you up to say goodbye! So anyway, you get the point. My Suburban is indeed, packed to the brim, as I’ve decided to take the mini monograms and preppy puppy home to my parent’s for the week. I’m so excited I think I could cry. Literally. I think the mini’s and I could all use a little change of scenery, and sister 1 from CA is in town for the week with her two children as well, so I’m very excited to do some fun stuff, such as play dates with friends and the new Aquarium, which I haven’t yet visited. So while there are no crafty projects on the horizon this week, I certainly didn’t want to leave you empty-handed today, so I’ve worked up my brief little Fall Must Have List to share with you all. I haven’t noticed if Martha has done hers yet or not, so that means I might possibly have beat her to it! So without further adieu (drum roll please), I present you with Monogram Momma’s Must Have Fall Finds, in no particular order.
1-First off, I am loving both “The Daily Scheduler” and “Note to School” pads by Family Facts over at See Jane Work. It is just what I need to keep my obsessive compulsive list making looking ever so cute. These are great to keep in the kitchen or on your office desk. Much more fashionable I think than the standard post-it pads! Although if you are a perpetual post-its user, then you should also check these ever cute and preppy polk-a-dot post-its as well.
2- Even the littlest school go-ers need a stylish backpack to tote home all that artwork, and for that reason, the mini monograms both have the monogrammed Pottery Barn Kids Fairfax backpacks and matching monogrammed lunch totes from last year. I love these bags for the boys because they have so many great pockets; most of them mesh on the inside so nothing gets lost in there. It is also quite large which makes it another plus in my monogrammed book!
3- Perfect for slipping in that PBK monogrammed backpack are these nap mats. I am especially fond of the Pink toile Nap Mat for the little ladies heading to pre-school, or the Cowboy nap mat for little gents
4-You had to know I was going to put the Tamara Henriques rubber floral flat that I mentioned a few weeks ago. I warned you then they were an absolutely must have for monogram momma! (coughIwearAsizeSeven)
5-With fall comes the time to transition to long sleeves, and that means Ralph Lauren “Create Your Own” long sleeved polo’s and Candy Striped Oxfords, prepped out with your monogram.
6- I quite simply, can not live without my Lands End Goose Down Vest. It is just the perfect weight for running around and in and out of stores without a cumbersome jacket to tote around. And in the preppy parrot green, which is the color I myself own, it goes with pretty much everything in my closet. As for the mini monograms fall outerwear, they practically live in their Gap plaid windbreakers, and also their Ralph Lauren Bayport Windbreakers. Now, once we hit winter though, they have nice navy pea coats, plus Lands End winter Squall coats, and also a Fleece pullover is a MUST. They practically live in these things, and this year I’ve picked these up from Mini Boden (matching, of course) because I love the quality of their clothes. Of course, you know I just had to pick up the ever preppy navy and red stripe.
7- The Weatherfield Tote in pink plaid by Lands End. Need I say more?
8- What a treat to see that Preppy Potato has their AMAZING fall line, the Canterbury Collection, on their site already. Hooray! So hop on over there and check out the new leather belt collection for the fall, and by all means, pick up the new monogrammed pink and white striped belt buckle with that fabulous white monogram on the homepage. I am so in love with this belt, it just had to make my list. But hold your horses! I can’t forget about the minis! So after you’ve picked up one of the new Preppy Potato belts for yourself, check out the great selection of grosgrain Baby Bug belts by Bugface belts.
9- What preppy wouldn’t love to pull on a pair of cropped ribbon jeans? You can pick up a cute pair for yourself at the Purple Poppy and while you’re at it, don’t forget to pick up a pair for the little Miss of the house over at CCC Gifts (as a side note, I will be telling you how you can make these yourself in the next couple of weeks too). These would look so adorable with a loafer and tee for running around I can’t even stand it!
10- Hi. My name is monogram momma and I am a Coach-aholic. I will make no apologies, or explanations, but rather assume you understand this desperate need of mine to add the new monogrammed Signature Stripe Collection to my own collection. I promise, Just.One.More. (Yes, I realize I already alerted the media to this bag a month ago with my bullhorn, but I really do have to have this bag for fall. I’m not kidding)
11- Speaking of bags, my favorite fall/winter bag is my Beijo “Over the Moon” bag in “fern” green. I love the shape of this bag, its shiny durable material that looks like patent leather, and the fact that it is the perfect handle length to comfortably sit on my shoulder. I am already looking forward to breaking it out this fall, so I wanted to make sure I shared this little treat with you too, so you can give these bags a try yourself.
12- Also making the list this fall, are these Monogrammed Mules and Slip-On’s by Mostly Monograms. But don’t just check out the monogrammed shoes they offer, make sure you look at all the fabulous needlepoint loafers and mules such as these that I also fancy.
However, if you are into needlepointing, then you can find needlepoint shoe canvas’ to do yourself at M’s Canvas warehouse.
13-Yes folks, they’re baaaaack! The same beautifully preppy monogrammed sweaters that we all wore for our class pictures with our ribbon barrettes in the 80’s have returned, sporting a slightly updated look. I’m so pleased to see these, I can’t begin to tell you and I’m so excited to share these with you all! Over at Baby Knits and More, they not only have monogrammed rolled-neck sweaters for the mini monograms, but also for Mr. Monogram and I. Are you loving it, because I sure am! Now, just to give you another option for your own little ones, at Twinkle Toes they’ve got beautiful monogrammed sweaters in either cardigan or rolled neck but if you are looking to make your initial a bit more prominent for your own mini’s, then check out the knitted initial sweater. I am ABSOLUTELY ordering two of these for the mini monograms in the off-white with a navy monogram. How supremely classic! However, if you love this idea, but not the price, then you can pick up a beautiful cotton cable knit monogrammed cardigan with matching knitted hat at Spoil the Baby for a perfectly preppy price of $35. Now that’s a great fall baby must have!
14- Last but most certainly not least, I wanted to let you know that I've heard a little rumor from the lovely ladies at Chesapeake Rose about their new fall line, and I'm so excited about it that I had to go ahead and put it on my list as a little teaser of more "good things" to come! So be looking forward to that little newsbreak as well when their fall line is ready to roll.
Whew! Well that list completely wore me out and now, unfortunately, I must go chauffeur the mini’s to my parent’s for the week. Oh how can I possibly contain my excitement at having to endure the next several hours of children’s DVD’s in the car? So I have no idea when or if I’ll be blogging the rest of the week. I may just hop on and share some fun finds this week and let you all know what I’m up to in Atlanta, but don’t count on any good preppy crafty ideas. So Adios! Maybe you’ll see me this week, maybe you won’t! But until then, feel free to talk amongst yourselves and share any other fall must-haves that I might have missed. Have a terrific week! I’m off to start my engine and continue singing my song.

Summer Must Have's
Is it possible that I am related to Martha? I mean really? Here, I have been mentioning for a week now that I was going to give you my list of Monogram Momma’s Summer Must Have’s, and lo and behold, Martha beat me to it! I swear, it’s like we share a brain sometimes (*sigh* if only she would share her bank account too, I would be most appreciative). Note to self: Take A.D.D. medication and check out family tree to see if there is any POSSIBLE way that Martha is really Italian and related to me.What? It could happen! At any rate, apparently she was on the Today Show at the beginning of the summer with her own list of Summer Must Have’s, which I unfortunately missed. I also can’t seem to find the actual list anywhere on the internet, but only mention of said list. So if you happen to know its whereabouts, please pass it along. I would be most appreciative (perhaps it’s hiding with baby Suri?). So here goes...
1. Lands End Open Top Totes (monogrammed, of course).
2. Lands End Sea to Shore shoes. We bought these for my mom and she loves them. They are the BEST for walking on the beach (sans socks) and running around, have easy bungee cord type laces, fully mesh breathable fabric, and anti-microbacterial. They’ve simply thought of everything!
3. Ralph Lauren “Create Your Own” collection of monogrammed polo’s (it’s about time!). I am all about the classic fit polo, however, if the price is a bit steep for you, then I think it’s perfectly fine to buy the regular classic fit polo and take it to be monogrammed yourself
4. Cute headbands like these from Chesapeake Rose (I bought the green & navy stripe, then also had them do one in a navy & red lobster print to wear to Alyson’s son’s lobster themed b’day party) and Susan Towner (you know I love my madras!).
5. The ever preppy little whale notebook for my purse from Rock Scissor Paper to feed my obsessive compulsive list-making habit (because monogram momma can always be found with a notebook of some kind in her purse!)
6. I’m waiting on pins and needles for the new Blueprint magazine to come out from Martha, as I expect you should be too. It’s a Martha Stewart Living magazine but for the slightly younger set, giving us step by step guides on “good things” and must haves and where and how to get them. Order your subscription today! And while you’re at it, I highly recommend Domino magazine as well. While the current months issue doesn’t really excite me, this is a fantastic decorating and shopping magazine that I always try to pick up.
7. Well you had to know flip flops would be on this list. And my favorite pair this summer has been a pair my sister bought me at Nordstrom by Silly Sandals, called “Take Wing” from the Karen Gray Collection. But for my everyday flip flops, I simply can’t live without my ToeGoz or pink and lime green striped Eliza B flip flops from Lauren Nicole. And as an added bonus, they are also monogramable which you know I must have! But so many people are hopping on the flip flop bandwagon, that you can even find cute ones at LL Bean this year (such as the cottage red dog to look good with preppy puppy) and J. Crew. And as a side note, if you call the J. Crew outlet right now, they’ve got their cute preppy striped and silk tie flip flops on sale and they’ll have the men in brown deliver them right to your door.
8. Who was the genius who invented the Coppertone Continuous Spray? Well it is certainly a summer must have in my little monogrammed book because it makes lubing up the mini monograms so much easier! Now, of course I use 30 for the minis, but I’m a bit “old school” so I still prefer to use the Hawaiian Tropic #4 Dark Tanning Lotion on myself. I’ve been a loyal and devoted “HT” customer for as long as I can remember. Yes, I know about sun Cancer. Yes, I know about wrinkles. I figure that eventually I’ll just get a face lift and it will solve my problem, so please don’t email me and tell me you think I’m stupid. If you too, were able to achieve that “natural tan of the islands,” then you would use it too.
9. Naturally, I have to put my monogrammed drink bucket on this list, because it is a staple of summer entertaining in my home, as it should be in yours as well (still waiting on pictures of your buckets, people!).
10. You will also be needing some preppy reading, and in fact, I’ve just finished a book titled Prep by Cutis Sittenfeld that I really enjoyed. Honestly, the cover with the pink and green ribbon belt is what initially drew me to the book like a guiding beacon of light, but it turned out to be really good. I also highly recommend the Shopaholic series of books by Sophie Kinsella for some fun, LOL reading. And another really great one is Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons which is about a group of housewives who start their own book club. What could be better than that?
11. I LOVE Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. I love how moist it keeps my lips during the summer and winter months. I keep one in the cup holder in my car and also my beach bag, so I’ve always got one on hand. Even the mini monograms give this one their kiss of approval.
12. I can’t help myself when the summer bags come out and every year I buy a new one to start off my summer. Last summer it was a cute Lilly bag, but this summer I bought a super cute pink Coach bag that I love. I love the shape, size, and colors, thus making it a summer must have for me!
Naturally there are a million more items I could put on my summer Must Have list, but these are just my summer staples. If you want me to do a summer must have list for the mini monograms or have any other project requests for that matter, send me an email at monogrammomma@charter.net or just leave a comment. Anyhow, today we are planning another laid back Friday at the pool. Yes, I do realize I spend a lot of time at the pool. But if you should decide to go to the pool yourself today, I’ll be the one in the pink swimsuit with the matching mini monograms, reading my copy of Blueprint in the baby pool. You’ll no doubt, know it’s me by the pink and green flip flops and ever controversial bottle of Hawaiian Tropic #4 sitting next to me as I keep working on my island tan.

Sweet Feet
While Mr. Monogram and I have been very busy working our way down the "To Do" list for our party (which keeps growing, BTW), I have been periodically ducking back inside to put more coats of poly on my Dr. Scholl's. Alyson is clearly as excited about these lobster sandals as I am, as she was IM-ing me at 11pm last night about them! Of course I will be wearing them to her son Drew's lobster themed birthday party at the end of the month (with the mini monograms in matching lobster swimsuits as well of course!). I am MOST excited about Drew's party as Alyson has been taking private cake decorating classes in Nashville and is planning on making the cake herself w/ a smooth white icing and red fondant lobsters and navy beads. I will surely put a picture of this cake on the blog when it's done (also, I know Ashley will want to see that too). Anyhow, back to my shoes. They have been a bit more difficult than I anticipated. I originally photocopied a pair of the mini monograms swimsuits so I could trace the lobster onto the shoes once I painted it, but that just did not work out AT ALL. So plan "B" was to get a clip art lobster and trace that, which worked well on the bed of the shoe but not the sides. On the side I had to do a little free-hand lobster which I did in the reverse colors from the bed of the shoe. They certainly don't look like a professional did them, but I think they're still wearable. But you be the judge!
To paint the shoes, I needed the following:
-1 pair of Dr. Scholl's sandals
-Blue painter's tape
-Water-based acrylic paints
-Rubber stamps or stencils
-Assorted brushes
-1 bottle of water-based varnish
I will tell you ahead of time that because I am not a good free-hand painter, I did not use acrylic paints and brushes. I used paint pens which worked just fine. Now onto the directions. Unbuckle the strap and cover with the blue painters tape. Also cover the thin white sole of the shoes if you don't want that painted as well. Base-coat the surface and sides of the shoe in your desired color and let dry. Repeat process. Add designs with a rubber stamp or stencil and shade as needed. Let dry, then brush on several layers of the water-based varnish, letting each coat dry before reapplying. Remove the tape and enjoy.
If you don't want to go to the trouble to paint them yourself, here is a list of a few great sites that sell them already painted. Be prepare to spend a pretty penny though! Although I think Sweet Feet Sandals originally started this trend, I prefer the selection at My Twinkle Toes. And lastly, make sure you stop by Simply Sandals. I don't wear much red, but I ADORE the Maryland Crab sandals, and naturally the green Polka Dot design on the pink sandal is calling Monogram Momma's name. The "Tee Time" is so cute too, in fact, this would be a great design for my friend Ashley to copy for her golf enthusiast mom. Can't you just see Mrs. E. at the beach in her cute green and white golf themed Dr. Scholl's, knee length skirt and t-shirt? Well if you knew her, you could picture it. Trust me!
As a side note, I feel the need to warn you that if you buy these Dr. Scholl's sandals, they are called the "exercise sandal" for a reason. While they are super cute to wear, they are like walking around on a plank of wood, and your calves will be killing you when you finally take them off your sweet little feet!
