Preppy Puppy Update

Thank you so much to everyone who has emailed and left comments concerning preppy puppy. I really appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, and kinds words of encouragement. Unfortunately, we were told yesterday that the right ventricle of her heart is in failure, and the left side is shutting down as well. Due to the heart failure, it's causing a back up of fluid into her lungs, preventing her from being able to breathe effectively or even lay down. We consulted with 2 vets, a heart specialist at our vet, as well as the cardiologist at the Vet school and she is terminal with very minimal time left. As you can imagine, I am devastated beyond belief and haven't left the house for more than an hour since last Friday.

Yesterday the vet was able to drain 250 cc's of fluid from her lungs to give her some temporary relief, and put her on 3 different medications. She was stable enough to finally be able to lay down and get some rest (she hadn't been able to lay down and sleep for more than 2 days so she was also exhausted), and they have allowed us to bring her home. Mr. Monogram brought her home yesterday early evening and we all had a wonderful night with her. Today I've spent the day in the bed or laying on the floor with her, just trying to get every second I can with her. She is smiling and wagging her tail and eating again, but I know it's just temporary and that her lungs are already starting to fill back up. These last couple days I have with her are such a blessing, and just so surreal. I can't believe her time has come and I'm having to say goodbye to my precious little girl. I'm completely heartbroken, and nothing can prepare me for the next couple days.

Anyway, thank you again for all your kinds words. Thank you also, for your patience. I have so many great things to share with you, but I've simply been too depressed to do anything. I hope you all understand. I did see something really simple and great on Martha's Holiday show last night though that I plan on doing myself this year, so I'm going to hop on later to post that for you. Slowly I will start showing you all the fun things we've been doing around here; I think I could use the distraction.

Best,
MM

I'm so, so sorry. Pets truly are family members, and it's so hard to see them in pain.

Such a brutal thing to go through. I am so sorry for you,for your husband, for the boys, for the sweet puppy. If it's any consolation, please remember this rotten time is so short, relative to all the happy, loving time she's had with you.
You've given her a wonderful life.

Oh what a difficult thing to go through any time, but particularly so during the holidays. It's clear that Preppy Puppy blessed your life, as you blessed hers. My thoughts and prayers are with all the Monograms.

I'm so sorry about Preppy Puppy. About 4 years ago our dog developed the same symptoms almost overnight, but she didn't make it back from the vet. I'm so glad that you were able to bring her home. I know the next days will be so difficult, and I will be thinking of you and your family.

I started to cry just reading about your precious pup. I'm so so sorry. I don't know what I would do if I lost my Charlie (our pup).

I tear up just thinking that someday he won't be here with us. He's going to get an extra treat tonight.

I'm so so sorry you (and she) are having to go through this. What a lucky girl she is to have you so focused on her. Animals are such generous creatures giving us ten thousand times more love than we are ever capable of giving back. Treasure your time with her.
