Blog Spotlight: Post Secret

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I know some you probably already know about this fabulously creative blog called Post Secret, but I'm pretty new to the world of snail mail secrets and I must say I love it. It's become a Monday morning indulgence for me, but not even just an indulgence. That really isn't a fair description and now I'm full of regret I just used that word. But let's power on just the same. It's such an awesome concept, and obviously popular too, for it to be ranked the 9th most popular blog around. And seriously? That's impressive given how many blogs there are out there (read a little Perez lately, anyone?)

For those of you that don't know, Post Secret is a blog that has a mail address in Maryland. And the idea is that people from all around the world, send their deepest darkest secrets on a creatively decorated post-card ANONYMOUSLY. The coolest part about this is the anonymous part, because it really lets people fell like they can share their secrets while still keeping it. Does that make any sense? In their own words, You are invited to anonymously contribute your secrets to PostSecret. Each secret can be a hope, regret, funny experience, unseen kindness, fantasy, belief, fear, betrayal, erotic desire, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before.

Pretty cool, right? The secrets are updated every Sunday night when Frank (the proprietor) makes his selection of the secrets for the week. Check it out and I promise you won't be sorry. You'll laugh, cry, shake your head in agreement, sometimes feel a little better about yourself, and sometimes a little worse. It is the most honest blog out there and I for one, can't wait to pick up the book.

I love, love, love PostSecret as well. I found one of their books while I was browsing at Borders a few years ago. Great choice!

I have been on a similar site. Honestly, these people should write this stuff on a piece of paper and then burn it.

Especially, since they don't want it getting out.

I LOVE Postsecret!! I have the first book and want the second. It is an amazing concept and I really, really wish I was the one getting all of those postcards. What a life changing experience to run this project.

Maybe it does help people but I find it to be very sad that these people aren't really dealing with their problems and that they feel absolved by doing this...the guy with 3 Chinese babies for example.

Hen: I'm not saying this is something I would actually do, but I do like reading the secrets. Some of them I am completely shocked about (like the guy w/ the chinese babies) and mortified, but then there are others that make me laugh. I can't explain why, but I just generally enjoy this site. Although truthfully? I can do with all the sex secrets. People really need to be keeping those to themselves!

If you and your readers like PostSecret, you'll love this site: www.SecondChanceOnline.blogspot.com -- it's a site where people anonymously post what they would do different in their life if they were given a "second chance". Everyone should check it out! Another great site is www.LifeIsFunnyBlog.blogspot.com -- it has a lot of "real stories from real life that are REAL FUNNY!" I'd encourage you and your readers to anonymously post your own stories on these sites!
