New Duds: Castaway Clothing

{Which could also be titled The One Where I Finally Post Pictures of the Mini Monograms}

As ya'll know, I am quite picky about the clothes the Mini Monograms wear. Yes, they've got a few things to bum around in that they are very rarely seen in public in (save for baseball or football practice), but overall, they are typically dressed in cute clothes 95% of the time. Nothing gets my goose more than to see kids who wear nothing but cartoon graphic tee's everywhere they go. I can't explain it, I guess it's just how I was raised.

Two weeks ago they each got a new pair of Jetties Shorts from Castaway Clothing and I've been dying to show them to you. For those of you who have been around here for a while, you'll remember that Castaway has been on my radar for quite a few years, and I know ya'll would adore their stuff. Anyway, these are the most fabulous shorts, I kid you not. Not only are they beyond adorable, but the fabric is light-weight and comfortable (not a heavy cotton duck like most embroidered wear) and extremely well constructed. You know I know my sewing and these shorts are super high quality. They run true to size and also have the ever important adjustable waistband (thank you Matt, for thinking of us mom's with growing kids!).

So how cute are these shorts? Well on Friday the boys and I were running errands around town and they were in their Jetties Shorts. We stopped at the park down the street from our house and our local Channel 10 news crew was there doing a special interest piece. When they were done, their videographer and anchor came up to tell me how much they loved the boys shorts and wanted to know all about Castaway. NO LIE! It was so fun, and all day the boys kept arguing over whose shorts were "cooler." So yes, it seems I've created my own little mini clothes hounds.

Cookie Party Favors

I think it's safe to say I'm getting to be somewhat of an expert at throwing Bowling Birthday Parties. Mini #2 turned the big F-I-V-E on Sunday and he insisted on having a bowling birthday party like his big brother did when he'd turned five. I hate to admit I was quite relieved because that meant my job was going to be easy having already done it before!
This is such a fun party for kids and parents alike, a real crowd pleaser. And since I was hosting another bowling party, that meant I absolutely had to have the bowling pin and ball cookie party favors from Laura at weddingcookie.com. When I spoke to Laura about doing the favors again for me, she was delighted to do so and told me they'd tweaked the design a bit. The ball is huge now and they were adorable beyond belief. Every single thing they do at weddingcookie.com is adorable though so I was not in the least bit surprised.



My entire order arrived via Fed Ex to my doorstep on Friday and not a single cookie in my order was broken or fractured. Perfectly wrapped and tied with a coordinating bow at the top, they were all ready to go! I literally didn't have to do anything.

I seriously can't recommend her enough and I've sent many people to her who have been very pleased. I know I won't go anywhere else for my party cookies, either. She can do anything you want and if you don't see it on her site, just ask! She's so accommodating and great, she is happy to find what you're looking for to suit your needs. Oh, and on top of all this fabulous presentation and great customer service? These cookies taste great and are nice and moist too!

Things I Love Today: Yearbook Yourself

I know, I know. I've been lame, I've been absent, I've also been pretty depressed lately so I've been spending an abnormal amount of time in bed. To make up for it and to offer you a creative outlet today, take it from Monogram Momma and go Yearbook Yourself (and everyone else you know and have pictures of, too).

I ended up looking an awful lot like my mom in a lot of those 60's and 70's pictures, but the 1998 photo of me looks nearly identical of a Sorority Composite shot from College! P.S. Have bathroom nearby, you will need it from all the laughing.

Things I Love Today: Steven Salario Sandals

You know when you order something that you're so excited to get that every time the UPS or FedEx truck drives down your street you jump up in anticipation, wanting to run after it like the proverbial dog chasing the mail truck? Well that's been me. In my pearls and pink and green, panting and barking at the parcel carriers. Not. Good.

And while I've [still] been waiting for a certain pair of shoes to arrive at my doorstep all summer, I was beyond thrilled to find my new pair of Steven Salario sandals sitting on my doorstep after waiting a mere week. Yes, that's right! I received hand-made leather Palm Beach Sandals on my doorstep in ONE WEEK. As in 7 days. They said 4-6 weeks was more of a typical turnaround, so I was so pleasantly surprised to see them in a week I was pisitively giddy! I'm so delighted to get to wear them this summer I can't even tell you, and I'm in love with this pink and green combo and completely impressed with the quality of the sandal.

For those of you who don't know much about Salario Sandals, Steven Salario's family has been in the leather and shoe industry since 1905. He was raised in this industry and it's more than fair to say he knows A LOT about quality shoe making. Steve himself has been making sandals since 1985. In the late 80's-early 90's he was approached by Jack Rodgers to come make sandals for them, which he did until the late 90's. He then branched back off on his own and has been a successfull sandal craftsman based out of Tampa, FL selling to upscale stores. Not only do they make the popular Palm Beach Sandals that we've all come to love and consider a staple in our preppy closet, but they also do fabulous driving mocs, pinch tasseled sandals and yes, a monogrammed leather sandal as well. Things I Love Today: Nautical Pups

Time to start getting Fido ready for the beach! Well, okay. So maybe it's a tad soon, but we are looking forward to taking new preppy puppy on her first beach vacation this summer, so I'm already looking for products to fit my nautical needs. Things I love Today: Yuppie Puppie

I have been so excited to tell you guys about Yuppie Puppie since I found it on Etsy a couple weeks ago. It has been such a challenge to find a cute preppy dog collar that every dog at the park won't have on. Preppy Puppy wore Coach for her everyday collar and had some specialty collars as well just to mix it up a bit, but new preppy puppy is still too young to receive a Coach collar. And I know you guys are as particular about your canine children as I am, so I can't recommend the designs over at Yuppie Puppie more. I know I will be purchasing them for each stage of her growth!

I purchased two collars (a girl needs choices, right?), the Brier and Star Paisley in Green and they are ADORABLE beyond words. Things I Love Today: Kristin Pearce

I've been such a terrible blogger lately; I hope you can all forgive me! I've been knee-deep in garland and holiday decor all the while fighting off a post Thanksgiving cold. To top it off, so have the mini's. But I'm back with lots to share in the coming weeks so make sure you stick your head in every couple of days to see what we're crafting over here at Monogram Momma's and what deals and discounts I'll be passing along as well.

Things I Love Today: July 07

First off, let me squelch those rumors that no, I have not been abducted by aliens. No, I’m not in hiding from the paparazzi, and no, the mini’s haven’t left me hogtied in a closet somewhere waiting to be discovered (although I’m fairly certain I’ve only narrowly escaped that last one pretty recently). I'm also not passed out in a drunken stupor somewhere either (although that is not to say I haven't considered it). I’ve just been busy with life and out of town company. If you’ve emailed me and I haven’t gotten back to you, then please forgive me and know I will get back to you. I promise.

Now, in light of me finally showing my face around here (this is so very unlike me, I know, but I’m trying to make myself relax and not feel like I HAVE to blog every day. Because I don’t, right?), I really wanted to share some really exciting Things I Love Today. Very summery, very fun and fresh, and oh so lovely!

A reader turned me onto these monogrammed camera bags from Doona Downey several months ago and I love them! Granted, I have a bit too much camera equipment for a bag of this size, but when she does the custom camera backpacks with individual compartments for all my lenses and paraphernalia, I’ll be all over it.
I saw this little hand-hooked pillow over at Coast and Cottage and it had my friend Cresta written all over it. I loved it at first sight! This could very easily be her girl Lucy in that sailboat, and it would go swimmingly in her family room!

The Monogram Markeplace by Monogram Momma

All I have to say is it’s a really good thing we cancelled the Derby Party on Saturday because the rain that was supposed to arrive on Wed, Thurs, and Fri, never made it’s way here until the weee hours on Saturday morning and WOW- did it arrive with a vengeance! Torrential thunderstorms all day long, so in hindsight, I am so glad we cancelled because I would have just been devastated by the rain ruining all my plans.

Anyhow, there’s no sense crying over spilled milk (or derby day thunderstorms) so I’m already thinking ahead and ready to move along. Are you guys ready? Because I’ve got a little announcement to make that I hope gets you excited.

You may notice that off to the right, on my little sidebar over there, is a new link for The Monogram Marketplace. Yep, you guessed it! It’s my very own little marketplace blog of preppy monogrammed tee’s. Yippie! In my quest to find cute but classic run-around graphic tee’s for the mini’s, I came up with an idea for monogrammed preppy tee’s. I love the idea of the traditional preppy graphics like the whale, the lobster, the anchor, etc., but I really wanted to personalize my graphics to make them just a tad bit cuter. So I came up with a few designs, played around with it a lot, and the end result is over at the Monogram Marketplace. After ordering a few I was so pleased with my final result that I thought a few of you might be interested as well. Then again, maybe not but I should at least be polite enough to offer, right?

Things I Love Today: Ready for Summer!

I’ve actually got LOTS to share with you this week as this past weekend was chock full of fun little projects and puttering around the house and yard. But I realize I haven’t done a “Things I Love” list lately so it’s about time. Don’t you think?

Mini #1 is spending the entire day with a friend so mini #2 and I took some lunch to the park and had a nice time with friends. It’s so beautiful here, I can’t even believe it. Summertime here I come! I hope your weather is as beautiful as mine. Enjoy these few little things I love!

Game on! I am all over this must have racket tote, especially since I’ve been getting back out to the court with the mini’s. I love just about everything over at Toss, but this one especially caught my eye (although it seems to just be lacking a small monogram in the bottom corner of the bag, no?).

From the experts in outdoor fine living, the only thing Frontgate can’t sell you with this little beauty is a beachfront view. Too bad!

I'm off in a rush this morning to get the mini's to preschool and pick up some groceries, but I wanted to hop on real quick and let you know of an exciting new product by the guys at Salmon Cove. Eminger Berries: My Heaven on Earth!

I'm stuck in the middle of decorating hell right now, but I had to stop in and tell you that Mr. Monogram and I had the most decadent deserts sent to us from Eminger Berries. You may remember I mentioned them back in December when we were talking about gifts of food. I had seen them on Food TV with those cuties Bobby & Jamie Dean, and their stuffed strawberries positively made my mouth water. Well I must say, we were fortunate enough to receive a lovely box of these treats, and let me just tell you they are PURE heaven on earth.

I really have no idea how on earth Susan over at Eminger Berries does this, but it's pure genious is all I have to say. It truly was the most decadent desert we've shared in a long time. So if you are looking for a special gift of food for someone special (I mean, how much would your parents love to receive these on their anniversary?), then I highly recommend this company. They are all so friendly and this was a truly memorable gift to receive that I will not forget!

Things I Love Today: Accessories & Peachy Paper

I know so many of you are expecting a project every day, but let me just say, that is pretty near impossible for me to do A) given how much time it takes and B) there are other things I want to talk about and share as well. Remember, Martha isn’t just about all the projects. I also don’t want to just throw out random projects, but instead, want to do ones that I think you will like and use and that I myself, want to do as well. So today I decided to do a few Things I love, to quench your shopping thirst.


In my humble opinion, anything from Basic French is a very good thing. If you don’t believe me, then cruise around their site and check out the adorable must-have Rattan bags, adorable childrens line (especially the crocheted headbands-Ooh LaLa!), and the waterproof Greengate Tote just to name a few.

While I know we all love our monogrammed stationery (especially moi), how about stationery that is actually embroidered?! Peachy Paper has a new product line called Kiwi where they have invented a special type of paper that is actually embroidered with your monogram. For those extra special hand written notes or for the person who has everything, go check these out!

So technically this is a product I picked up in a children’s store. But I am not the least bit afraid to admit I wear it myself. The Build a Better Bracelet line is so adorable and fun that it is great to pair casually with jeans or Bermuda shorts while running around, to give as a gift to a friend, or okay, as a gift to a child you know. She will be sure to feel like a rock star with this bracelet on! Chose from gobs of different band styles (I prefer the Grosgrain or Frosty band because it’s waterproof), slides and initials, and just have fun creating your casual one of a kind monogrammed bracelet! Want to know what I wear from this line? I wear the Frosty band in two shades of blue. One band has mini #1’s monogram and the other band has mini #2’s monogram with the Industrial letters. ;-)

Oh, and in sort of related news, I’ve got two discounts I’ll post later today. But right now I’ve got to tune into Court TV for my daily fix of the Anna Nicole trial. I know, I should probably start to re-examine my priorities.

Her Name is Lola & She's a Showgirl (and here are the things she loves today)

So picture this. Last night monogram momma sits down to read an email from the infamous Underpaid Kept Woman. All of the sudden, she flies out of her seat, propelling herself into the air in comic-book fashion, chair rolling across the hardwood floor behind her. In a stealth-like slow motion moment, she is able to quickly steal the remote from an unsuspecting Mr. Monogram in the next room. Ack! The look of horror on his face is pricelss and his voice takes on that slow record player-type voice in the deep and contorted “NOOOooooooooo!”

Him: What are you doing?!

Me: This is REALLY important!

Him: Tell me what you are looking for and I will find it for you. In his most irritated, man must always have the remote in his hand type of voice

Me: AH HA! OMG! I Found it!! doing the running man I’m so excited

Him: What you are talking about?! Did you have another cocktail hour today?

Me: HOLY CRAP I CAN KARAOKE ANYTIME I WANT NOW!!! SUPER excited, we are talking, beyond “running man” excitement here

Him: Great. Well it’s an additional $7 and we already pay Charter Cable about three thousand one hundred fifty-seven dollars and ninety two cents a month so, NO.

Me: pressing the “buy” button in front of him as he watches it happen in slow motion on the screen.

Me: That was the best seven bucks I’ve spent in a looooooooooooong time my friend. Totally taunting him

So after a roof raising performance of The Copacabana two minutes after buying my monthly On-Demand Karaoke package, performed by yours truly, complete with hand and dance moves, and also, let me add, not only singing the lead but also singing my own backup (yes, it takes talent, people. That’s all I’m saying. Pure talent), Mr. Monogram was pretty tempted to ask me for his $7 back. Yep, it’s going to be a FUN month at the Monogram household, that’s for sure! And if you doubt me, go back and read #12.

Now my little Copacabana loving friends, I’m off to pack up the mini’s lunches in their cute little monogrammed lunch totes, then grab their equally cute little monogrammed backpacks and drop them off at pre-school so I can go fabric shopping today with a friend. It’s a bit of a drive, about 30 minutes to this fabric store in the middle of NOWHERE, but completely worth it. I’m hoping to find fabric for my dining room window treatments, and new inspiration fabric for the guest room (which Mr. Monogram has no idea that once I’m finished with mini #2’s “big boy room”, I’m re-doing the guest room. Shhhhhhhhhhh!). Anway, here are a few things I love today (aside from my On Demand Karaoke- total props to Susie Sunshine!).

Prep School Tie Matches
If you're going to be a pyro, you shuold at the very least, look cute and have your own prepped out, signature matches, no? Iomoi has these and several other preppy matches that will make you all warm inside.

Snot Spot
Okay, okay. So it's probably not very proper, etiquette wise to talk about snot. But with the weather turning colder (can I get an AMEN?!) and with ski trips on the horizon, this is the ultra winter sport good thing from Campmor.

Helen Ficalora Charms
This says it all since I've been in love with these little hammered gold disks by Helen Ficalora for well over a year now. And hopefully Mothers Day will find me wearing two neckalces, one with each of the mini monograms initials on it. Well if it's good enough for Jennifer Garner to wear, it's certainly good enough for monogram momma! hint, hint to anyone who's reading this and knows Mr. Monogram

Preppy Hospital Gowns
Yes Virginia, there really IS a Santa Claus but he forgot to leave you the monogrammed (!!) preppy hospital gown from Dear Johnnie's in your stocking. So go pick out yours today, and while you're at it, pick one up for Preppy Rider as well since she's got an impending delivery she really must look cute for.

As if a name like Madison Sloan isn't old school enough for you, you'll simply fall out of your Louis the XVI chair when you see this tabletop enchancing product. Lots of colors and patterns to chose from and as a bonus, they're reversible. These are VERY good things.

Even The Scrooges of Stationery Can't Touch the Things I Love Today

Once again I’m popping on quickly this morning as I find myself, AGAIN, without much time. Mr. Monogram has left town this morning for the rest of the week and with no pre-school today Mini #1 is having a play date. Good thing I thought ahead because it’s rainy and gross outside so our plans are to go pick up his buddy Sam and head out to our local jumpity jump inflatable places so I can efficiently wear them out for an hour. After that I’ll probably bring them all home, throw some food in the trough for them, and let them play for a while until it’s time for Sam to go home and naptime in our house. Yes, I’ve got this all planned out very carefully and down to the minute, actually!

And since I know many of you are just dying to know, would you believe I still haven’t heard back from anyone at Inviting Smiles? Really people, just avoid doing business with them at all cost. Someone suggested I contact the consumerist and admittedly, this SAHM has no idea what that is, I’m going to be looking into that today. I did send them one final email, which I will share below.

Okay, so that’s the last I’m going to mention the company I have now dubbed the Scrooges of Stationery. Although I suppose if you prefer the Grinch's of Greetings, you could call them that as well. But regardless, I’m not talking about it again unless they contact me or you guys are just itching to know. I will still, however, continue my correspondence with those of you who contacted me for help and continue to do what I can. Apparently though, they have no intention of stepping up to the plate. Bah humbug to them.

However, in much happier news today, I’m thrilled to share some new Things I Love Today and really recommend these as gifts. Speaking of, remember last week when I shared “A Brown Dog” t-shirt company with you? Well I spoke to the owner and she is just as nice as can be and what I really wanted to share with you as a follow-up is that a portion of each sale goes to her local animal shelter and the Labrador Retriever Rescue. And you know since I am all about the little details, these tees come all wrapped up with ribbon and a hand-written note. Now THAT is taking care of a customer and sharing good will to all!

Now seriously, Martha really needs to jump all over this little company because this is seriously a good thing. It’s too bad they don’t offer personalization or monogramming but really I think we could pull this one off ourselves too and SERIUOSLY, can you THINK of a baby gift that would make a better presentation? Okay, well aside from my basket of goodies.

Let’s face it, sometimes the only gift that's appropriate to send at Christmas, or that we want to send at Christmas, is a gift of food. But how many of you are tired of that same 'ol Harry & David Tower of Treats? Or the tin of popcorn? Let me see those hands, people. Raise them high in the air. And wave 'em like you just don't care. Heyyyyyyy, Hooooooooooooo, Heyyyyyyyyyyyy, Hoooooooooo!

I mean it's nice and all and don't think the Monogram's aren't all vying for the cheese flavored popcorn, but seriously. There are just too many other options out there right now that would really show your loved ones you went that extra mile and found some additional food gifts that are even worthy of Martha.

So real quick this morning before I head out on yet another excursion to JoAnn's with the mini monograms, I'm going to throw out a few new ideas for food gifts to send this holiday season. These companies have such unique and fabulous products and presentation, that it will really tell your recipient(s) that you went the extra mile and really thought about them and sent them something unique but delicious at the same time.

The Cajun Turkey Company is known for lots of mouth watering foods, but one thing they are MOST famous for is their Tur-Duc-Hen. That's right. They take a hen and stuff it in a duck and then stuff THAT inside a turkey. I watched the owner pull this masterpiece together and truly, it was amazing. So you can order up the whole "Bobby Deen Dinner" special complete with Tur-Duc-Hen and stuffing, crabmeat au gratin, BBQ shrimp and pistolettes with your choice of stuffing. And yes I do mean THE Bobby Dean, cutie offspring of my girl, Paula. Ok just typing that makes me feel overstuffed myself like I need to go put on my elasticized yoga pants so hop on over there and check out all your various options of unique Cajun style dishes and deserts that you can order up and delivered in time for Christmas dinner.

You just have to know an Italian bakery in NY City with a name like Venieros has GOT to be good right? Well I do anyway and since I'm a full blooded Italian, just take my word for it. So hop on over there and order up any one of their Italian holiday specialties like the Stuffoli or Pizza Rustica, or check out other classic melt-in-your mouth pastries such as the Sfogliatelle, marzipan gift box, or even a generous biscotti tray (personally, I'll take my mom's homemade ones, but I'm sure these are delicious too)

To send the "ultimate Southern Confection" then you might want to check out Tennessee T-Cakes. Legend has it these t-cakes go all the way back to the Civil War. Available in Original, Key Lime, Luscious Lemon, and Chocolate Truffle, these would be a thoughtful and delicious epicurious treat for even the pickiest of people.

Brownies are all American and even non-chocolate lovers such as me can't resist indulging in a moist brownie. Throw in a tall glass of milk and fugghetabout it. Send someone the mint julep or the Aphrodite to let them know you went out of the way to find a great tasting memorable gift of food for them. Don't even try to tell me you don't like a Silk Pie because I won't believe you. And the Alaskan Silk Pies from Alaska Silk Pie Co. Are the REAL deal. I mean, if the Deen brothers say so then it must be true, now? As a side note, how cute are those boys? Really?! Anyway, these pies look absolutely divine. I have fond memories of going to Boychuk's Deli when I was a little girl and getting a salt bagel with crème cheese, a ginormous deli pickle and a crème soda. What IS it about good crème soda? Yep, it's hard to find, that's for sure. But lucky for us we can pop on over to Sprecher Brewery and order up 12 packs of fabulous root beer, ginger ale, crème soda, and orange soda. I LOVE this gift idea!!! However, the Sandra Dee in me also feels the need to tell you that you can also send the gift of premium brewed beer as well so something else to keep in the back of your mind for those beer aficionado’s on your gift giving list.

I know I’ve mentioned this company before, but I am a really big fan of Nostalgic Candy Company. And if you’re looking for a fun gift that will take its recipient on a fun little skip down memory lane, then I really love the idea of the Christmas Drum with 50 pieces of nostalgic candy. This is also a great food gift for those hard-to-buy for because they have everything people on your list and the presentation in the drum is a certified good thing according to monogram momma.

Another oldie but goodie is Omaha Steaks. I can really vouch for the quality and taste of their steaks and products and have really been happy with everything we’ve ever received from them. You can pick out various gift packages or even chose to send a meal. This is particularly nice if you know someone is going to be on their own (or maybe working?) on Christmas Eve.

But after you’ve livened up your taste buds at Omaha steaks, then you must check out A La Zing. It’s a similar concept to Omaha steaks, but its more meal oriented and they have a larger variety of meal-type food gifts. Again, I think this is a very thoughtful gift to send along to someone you know perhaps can’t travel home for the holidays, or perhaps a family where both parents are working outside of the home and who’s holidays are twice as hectic trying to get everything pulled together for their family.

Now, if you want to send something sweet, then Eminger Berries has just what you are looking for. Their luxury desert stuffed strawberries are world renown. I mean seriously. Who wouldn’t like to receive a New York Cheesecake stuffed INSIDE an actual chocolate covered strawberry?

Ok, so quite possibly my favorite little find this season for gifts of food or a gift you just want to order for yourself, is the homemade peppermint marshmallows from Back in the Day Bakery. Of course you know I’ve got to support the South and located in Savannah, Georgia, “Back in the Day Bakery” makes the fluffiest and most unique marshmallows around. You can order up a batch for and pair it with some hot chocolate and send it on it’s way for what I know will make anyone feel all warm and fuzzy this Holiday season.

Well I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted and HUNGRY after all that food talk. Everyone can thank monogram momma reader, Elizabeth D for making us all so hungry this morning too, who requested some new food gift ideas. ;-) So it's time I click the mini's in their car seats, put on those winter hats and head out the door. Things I Love Today: A Brown Dog

I really only have a minute, but I HAD to jump on real quick to share this little site I found yesterday. I am BEYOND EXCITED about this find because truly, what says monogram momma MORE than a brown dog (ahem, like my own preppy puppy), and cheeky little reminders of good manners? NOTHING! That's what!

Now, you all KNOW I have to support a company that was founded on a conversation with a choclate lab. So I present, A Brown Dog tee-shirt company. To say I NEED these shirts for the mini monograms is a gross understatement. In fact, I want one for me too! Truly the only shame is that you can't personalize. I mean, couldn't you just see a t-shirt with 'Preppy Puppy Says... always write your thank you notes" ? Or how about my favorite daily phrase, ..."don't forget to put both potty seats down!" How CUTE are these tee's?

So anyway, do not walk but RUN over there to check out the must have selection for your own little ones, just make sure you save a 4T and 6T of the "no whining" tee's for me to order when I get back this afternoon! Seriously folks, I am in LOVE with this little company!

I Want One!

This is totally unrelated to Christmas and I'll be back with another one or two posts today, but seriously, how adorable is this sweater? Say it with me Moms: NO MORE LOST MITTENS! And I don't even have to tell you how cute that little ascot looking knitted scarf is either.

Oh, and then there are these smart little mittens that are not only made to keep your hands warm, but to keep you in a constant hand holding position. I'm thinking these are perfect for trips into the grocery store so the mini's have a warm hand and I have a firm grasp!

HAHAHAHAHA! I LOVE these! These are SO SO cute but SO SO pricey that I'd not only make my kids wear them every day (hot or cold, mind you), but have to take a million pictures of them in these little Farm Friends!

Happy Anniversary to ME!

Happy Anniverary , Mr. Monogram, wherever you are (somewhere in St. Louis), and whatever you’re doing (receiving an exceptional achievement award). Eight years ago today I was an excited nervous wreck, about the embark on the biggest adventure of my life. And here we are, eight years, 3 houses, 2 kids, and a chocolate lab later, still hanging in there (somehow). Okay, well the dog did come before any of this since she was a Christmas gift from you to me 11 years ago, but you get the point.

Today we’re celebrating 8 years of wedded “bliss.” That’s a funny word, don’t you think? As the EMG remarked about her anniversary last month, we should probably be celebrating the fact that after nearly 11 ½ years together and 8 years of marriage we haven’t managed to kill each other yet (remember West Virginia?), but as long as there’s a gift involved I’ll celebrate whatever he wants me too. Well you didn’t think I was stupid, did you? And you know, I’ve been pretty pissy about spending yet another anniversary alone while he’s off on some business trip or another (note: he has missed 5 of the last 8 anniversaries), but now I’m thinking the gift of being alone and having the bed all to myself and not having to shove him over on his side or yell at him to stop snoring might actually be a wonderful gift in itself, no? Yes, I’m liking this idea more and more, as is preppy puppy who really enjoys spreading out on his side and his pillows when he’s out of town as well. And you know I take my preppy puppy’s comfort most seriously at this advanced stage in her life.

Now, you all know I am a traditional girl who likes to do things strictly by the book, especially when etiquette is concerned. And I happen to know that the traditional gift for an 8th anniversary is a gift of bronze or pottery, and a modern gift would consist of linens or lace. And since I just don’t see Mr. Monogram getting all excited about linens or lace, that leaves me with bronze or pottery. Again, I just don’t see him getting excited about that either so it’s time to be a little creative. But even channeling my inner Martha couldn’t get me to come up with anything even remotely creative where Linens, lace, bronze or pottery is concerned, so it was time for Plan B.

And Plan B means I decided to make it an interpretive gift. You know, like interpretive dance. It really isn’t dance at all, but whatever… You call it what you want. So taking the Lace gift from the modern gift suggestion, I decided to give him new shoes with LACEs. Good, right? Well, he did love the shoes I must say and while it was boring for me to buy and give, it was, after all, what he asked for. And in retrospect, it was probably about as exciting for him to buy my new Coach bag for me, but yet, I think we all know how thrilled I was to open that shiny brown box perfectly wrapped with a ribbon. Here’s a picture of my new baby. Clearly, I was a tad too excited to snap pictures of the new member of my growing little Coach family to remove all the tissue from her handles, but they are a beautiful red to match her. But don’t worry, no formal birth announcement will be sent.

So today I was out and about shopping and came up with a few more ideas for Holiday decorating. It is high time I start kicking it into high gear here so get ready because things are about to take off here at monogram momma’s. Last night I finished up a great project that a few people have been asking about so I’m super excited to share that. I’m sure a few of you will find a little boring, but c’est la vie. I can’t please everyone, much as I would love to. Oh, I almost forgot! If you’ve emailed me a gift giving request and I haven’t gotten back to you, I promise I am working on it. Sorry to sort of pop on and pop off like this but I really must get going now. Laundry is calling and it isn’t going to take “no” for an answer anymore.

Mommy Time & Things I Love Today

Whew! What a busy day! And no, I didn't forget about you all. But since today was the first day in 5 straight day's that I've had a little break from the mini monograms, I had a lot of running around to do. Believe you me, it takes twice as long to get errands run when you've got two little monograms to get in and out of car seats.

And it's not like my day was all that interesting, but I feel slightly invigorated after having some much needed mommy-time today. I had an impromtu chai tea latte at Starbucks with another pre-school mom which was great fun, then I headed to the mall where I got some really fabulous deals on cute cable-knit sweaters in all my favorite colors, and was even able to pick up a little something to wear out for my Anniversary dinner this weekend. After that, I met up with Mr. Monogram to look at some "big boy" furniture for mini #2. Good news. I think we've *finally* settled on a big boy bed for him. Yeah! More to come on that later, when I tackle the oh so *exciting* adventures of re-decorating his room. But that's enough about my boring day because it's been a while since I shared a few things that I love today.

Ribbon Cuff Bracelets by Creative Ta Da
I think we’ve all seen the more expensive Franklin & Abbey version of these preppy cuff bracelets, but when I spotted these at a little holiday boutique show where there were people from all over the SE displaying their products, the owner had no idea these already existed. Hers are almost exactly like the F&A ones but on the plus side, they are significantly less. Now, I will say, she did not have hers monogrammed, but I suggested she offer that and here’s hoping she does because these little monogrammed ribbon cuffs are perfect little holiday gifts or stocking stuffers. I know my babysitters would love to have these (ok, well I want one first, and thenI’ll buy one for them too).

I Like you: Hospitality Under the Influence
Who says hospitality has to mean stuffy and boring? Not with Amy Sedaris it doesn’t! This book is supposed to be good LOL reading complete with entertaining tips, recipes, and hysterical pictures of Amy, sister of the famous David Sedaris. It’s definiltely on my gift giving list this year. Scroll through the pictures on amazon and you’ll get a real kick out of some of the book insets they show!

Solas Handbags
As any good celebrity gossip stalker (coughMe) should know, it is most important to know what the celeb set is wearing, carrying, drinking, and sharing. And that means these Solas bags. While I love the cute little clutch and it’s perfect for the holiday’s, I don’t exactly live a jet-setting celebrity life with Mr. Monogram and the Mini monograms, and sadly, I don’t think this bag would come in handy for playgroup (nor do I think it would hold a diaper or wipe, which is of the utmost importance in my life these days). But basically, it’s a bag with a light. It’s like going into a bathroom that has one of those lights on sensor so when you open the door, the light automaticall pops on. No more fiddling in your purse in the dark movie theater again!

Myself Belt
Any parent with a child in between 2 and 5 knows how hard it is for little fingers to maneuver a belt. Even those cute preppy grosgrain belts that we all know and love and put on our kids, are often difficult for young ones to figure out how to fasten once they’ve done their business and received their potty treat. Even my mini’s come wondering out of the bathroom, belt hanging apart needing me to fasten it again. So MAJOR hats off to the designer of these belts who make it oh so simple for any toddler to fasten and unfasten their own belt!
